Justin Reed Early was born in Bellingham, WA. He spent most of his childhood as a homeless youth on the streets of Seattle and was a credited participant in the Academy Award-nominated movie, STREETWISE (1984). At the age of 11, he was victim of child trafficking though was repeatedly arrested and incarcerated - being criminalized for being a nuisance, a street hustler and a runaway (throwaway) youth.
After being committed to a long term behavioral modification program, Justin had a spiritual awakening and realized for the first time that he could change his life and better not only his life, but the lives around him. He was a co-founding Board Member of the popular youth agency, BAY Positives in San Francisco and served on several committees to enhance the lives of troubled young people. He became a public speaker and educator and then moved to New York City where he worked in the music industry as a promoter and disc jockey, playing at popular nightclubs all over the United States and abroad.
He is an avid supporter of homeless youth and human rights solutions and recently served a two-year term on the Board of Directors of the National Network for Youth, which is based out of Washington, DC.
He was inspired to write this memoir after witnessing a Dateline NBC Special on the Green River Killer – the serial killer who murdered his childhood street sister – Roberta Hayes - who played a pivotal role in his street upbringing. She is considered Victim #42.
San Francisco Bay Guardian celebrates his literary achievement boldly stating:
"Hard luck memoirs have grown extra cheap in recent years, partly due to the celebration of bogus ones. Justin Reed Early's StreetChild: An Unpaved Passage is no such thing."
StreetChild was well received nationally obtaining rave reviews and his grassroots campaign is still gaining momentum. He is currently touring the United States doing book signings while speaking at homeless shelters and youth programs, providing free books to homeless youth while inspiring better lives for the many who suffer through homelessness and continuing social injustices.
He currently resides in Los Angeles, CA and was recently appointed Chief Operating Officer for an expanding Medical Corporation in Southern California.
